Tag!! I’m it!

Adrienne from Happy Hour Projects tagged me! I love these bloggy “games” :) Get ready to learn some random things about me :)

RULES:

  • You must post the rules.
  • Answer the 11 questions that the tagger posted for you & then create 11 questions to ask the people you've tagged.
  • Tag 11 people and link them in your post.
  • Let them know you have tagged them.

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

This is tough! I’d say blonde, my bff Jac says Inspiring, my friend Amber says funny and Jen says fun. (yes I took a poll.lol)

What's your guilty pleasure?

Coffee with whipped cream and caramel sauce on top!Its so baaaaddd! But I love it :)

Socks or barefoot?

I used to be a barefoot kinda girl, but with knee issues, icky carpet (its going soon! I hope) and a puppy that has a foot fetish, I’ve become a socks and shoes girl.

What's the fastest way to make you mad?

The thing that makes me mad the fastest is when I see someone being picked on. I can’t stand injustice and I’ve always been one to cheer for the underdog.

What's your favorite time of day?

My favorite part of the day is the hour or 2 I spend curled up with my laptop (and/or a good book) and a cup of coffee. Its usually first thing in the morning. I love just relaxing, getting caught up on blogs that I follow and planning my day.

What's your most embarrassing moment you dare to share?

When I was about 10 years old, my family lived on a chicken farm. One day we had friends over and decided to play hide and seek. I was running along the cement wall that edged the manure pit, when I slipped and fell! I was chest deep in chicken poop! Since the other kids were incapacitated with laughter, I had to wade/crawl my way out! I still get teased about it to this very day.

Sweet or Salty?

Yes! Winking smile

What's the story about whichever you prefer to share: either your first car, or your first kiss?

First car… I was 16 and since my Dad is a mechanic, I had a beater of a blue station wagon! I think it lasted 6 months before it bit the dust for good.

If you could only have one box of craft supplies, what would be in it?

Definitely would have to have pencil crayons, a note pad, fabric, needles, thread, yarn and crochet hooks. Ok… so it would have to be a BIG box :)

What's something you're proud of?

A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with Severe Ulcerative Colitis, since then I have made some pretty significant lifestyle changes. I also moved to a new country, started a blog and online shop and got married! I’d have to say I am pretty proud of everything that I’ve done in the past year.

What is the best gift someone could give you?

Other than diamonds,a big box of Lindor chocolates, or yards and yards of fabric? I’d have to say the best gift some could give me would be their time. I’m a quality time kinda person. There is nothing I love more than chatting for hours over a cup of hot coffee.

Now, 11 bloggers to tag... Its cool if you don’t play along, but I’d love to read your answers to my questions :)

I learned some Life Lessons…

While making this Quilt!
bloggity 039-1
Yep its true… quilting can teach you things. Well it taught me a few things anyways…
bloggity 046-1bloggity 044-1bloggity 045-1bloggity 047-1
#1. Ironing is not a suggestion, it’s a Commandment when it comes to quilting and highly recommended for the rest of life too.
#2 Measure, Calculate, Measure, Calculate and Measure some more BEFORE you cut!
#3 After all that measuring and calculating, make sure that your squares are straight! (Ok that is mostly a sewing related lesson… but I am sure there is something practical in there for the rest of life too!)
#4 Before running off with wild ideas, check with friends (and maybe even, oh say, the INTERNET) to see if someone has “been there, done that” and might have some tips to make it easier.
#5 Make sure that your dog doesn’t chew your whiteout bottle, causing, unbeknownst to you, whiteout to get all over your hand. What happens if you then go to, oh I don’t know, put the binding on your quilt and you get whiteout all over the quilt you slaved over for hours? (true freaking story!)
#6 If your Father-in-law is nice enough to fix a squeaky piece of machinery for you, thank him profusely, BUT make sure you check it for oil spots and wipe the heck out of it when you get it home!!

bloggity 048-1bloggity 049-1
Please don’t look too closely at these pictures… you might just catch some of the many (millions) of errors and mishaps involved in bringing this bit of ghastliness to life! Good thing it was always intended to be mine!
Happy Flipping Monday! :p

Jumping on the Monogram Bandwagon!

Lately there have been tons of monogram’s popping up all over the place, and I LOVE them all! Since I’ve been married a little less than a month, its only fitting :)

Of course… not every project works out the way you imagine it…

I used masking tape and grey paint to make stripes… and this happened…

bloggity 018-1bloggity 020-1

Nasty, fuzzy, icky lines!

I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and seconds before I was ready to through this canvas in the trash I had a moment of pure inspiration! Cover it with fabric :)

bloggity 026

I remembered that I had almost a yard of this black and white chevron fabric in my stash, just waiting for the perfect project :)

bloggity 027-1

To make sure that the already painted stripes wouldn’t show through, I added a layer of white in between the canvas and the chevron fabric.

bloggity 032

Using a glue gun I attached the fabrics to the back of the frame, making sure to pull it nice and tight.

I had pained the “s” solid black… which would have worked well with the grey stripes. So I sprayed it with a light coat of white to give it a grey look… and then ran to grab some Sparkles!

bloggity 051-1

I covered the sparkle layer with a clear coat to help them stick (no one wants sparkles where sparkles don’t belong!)

I absolutely adore the way it turned out and it looks fabulous on the “mantel” :)

A Quilt Fit for a Princess!

I mentioned last week that I was in the midst of a mad dash to get a quilt made for a little princesses birthday. Well, I finished 2 hours before I was to be picked up leaving me just enough time to wash and dry it and snap a few indoor (boo! hiss! stupid rain!!) pics before wrapping :)

party 029

Yes it is taped over one of our doorways… there really wasn’t anyplace to take pics inside :s And the lighting is crap. I know :(

party 030

party 032

I used the basics from In Color Orders Patchwork Chevron Quilt tutorial, but changed the size to match the squares of pink fabric I had and the size I wanted. Completed it was 44 inches square, the perfect size for a 4 year old.

party 040-1party 129

Before we could get to the presents we had to do some sliding and some cupcake eating!

party 148party 146party 149

Then the little Princess F. got to open her presents :) She was so excited about the quilt. Much more excited that I anticipated. When I whispered to her that I’d MADE it just for her, she gave me the biggest grin, turned to her mom and said “Mom!!! She MADE this for ME!”

On the 40 minute drive home she HAD to snuggle under her new quilt.

Makes every stich, needle pricked finger, and ironed seam worth it!

Today I am…

Today I am…

… barely awake! and its already noon! Mule and I are trying to adjust to his new jobs and a new work schedule. Both are great! but will take some getting used to.

…going to try and finish the squares for the princesses birthday quilt (the princess being a friends daughter). Her party is on Saturday and I’ve got a lot to do!

…thankful for my incredible Mom! Even though there are a couple thousand miles between us, she still inspires me with her strength and resilience.

16677461089591755_wdPqmoEo_b209065607671334548_2G6ntNar_b

…I’m part of a giveaway over at The Lovely Poppy! There is $450 worth of prizes up for grabs including a $25 shop credit to my store :)

… adding new items to my etsy shop! Woot Woot! Its only been a couple months since I’ve added anything new :s

 100_0415-1

These are crocheted camera strap covers. I was inspired by Maybe Matilda. But I used different yarns and added removable fabric rosettes for some added detail :) They’re $18 and ready to go! I’m also adding in some of the infant afghans I’ve created recently, including the wool eater baby blanket!

…I’m going on a picnic date with my hubs… but he doesn’t know it yet :) Should be fun!
